摘要:
The reductionist approach has dominated biological research in the last half century, yielding significant insights on the mechanisms of relatively simple biological phenomena. However, our understanding of complex biological phenomena such as circadian rhythm and cancer, which generally involve dynamic interactions among multiple genes, is far from being comprehensive. Because a biological system is not simply an assembly of all of its parts, properties of the system cannot be fully understood without an integrative view of the whole system. In this seminar, I will present three examples, ranging from mouse metabolic system, human cancer to Alzheimer's disease, to demonstrate how integrative network biology can be used to address some of the most long-lasting and difficult questions in biomedical sciences.
