孙顶强， 南京农业大学经济管理学院副教授，美国加州大学戴维斯分校（UC Davis）博士。研究方向：微观发展经济学、资源与环境经济学、农业政策。近三年在Food Policy、Energy Policy、China Agricultural Economic Review、The Developing Economies 等国外著名期刊发表SSCI/SCI文章4篇。在《农业经济问题》、《中国农村经济》等期刊上发表论文10多篇。主持国家自然科学基金面上项目“风险视角下农业生产环节外包服务需求、效率与政策研究”（编号：71473122），同时是国家自然科学基金重大项目子课题主持人，主持“新时期农业发展的国家政策支持体系研究”（编号：71333008），第七子课题“农业支持政策设计以及体系优化”。 获2014年江苏省高校省级英语授课精品课程入选者（入选课程：微观经济学）、2014年江苏省“博士集聚计划（境外世界名校创新类）”、2013年南京农业大学“钟山学术新秀”、 2013年美国农业与应用经济学会（AAEA）年会China Section最佳优秀论文。此外，还担任China Agricultural Economic Review（SSCI）、Energy Policy (SSCI/SCI)等期刊的审稿人。
讲座主要内容：
Traditional biomass energy, such as firewood, straw and other crop residues, is a major source of household energy consumption in rural China. However, household energy consumption is now undergoing a transition from biomass energy to modern commercial energy. As traditional biomass energy is mainly produced with family labor and is relatively labor intensive, an increase in wage rate would enhance opportunity costs of family labor. This therefore leads to a reduction in biomass energy production and consequently an increase in commercial energy consumption.
This paper examines the impact of rising wage rate on energy choice and consumption in rural China. Using a unique panel data set collected from 409 families in 4 provinces, our results show that the wage rate at the village level has a significant negative impact on traditional biomass energy consumption. In addition, the consumption of electricity and renewable energy increase as local wage rate rises. Our analysis also finds that other factors, such as household wealth, access to markets, household size, average age of the household, education level of household head, and other household characteristics, play an important role in explaining China’s rural household energy consumption.
