内容简介:
S.cerevisiae and its closest relatives own their competitiveness during evolution to a combination of effective abilities including facultative fermentation, anaerobic growth, and repression of other sugar metabolism by glucose. It was recently proposed that the whole genome duplication (WGD) occurred 100 million years ago during the evolution of sensu stricto species complex provided the basis for the evolution to the more efficient fermentative life style. However, the molecular events during this process are not fully understood. In this talk I will use regulation of mitochondrial function as a system to address how different mechanisms can be used together to achieve the same regulatory consequence of suppressing mitochondrial function by glucose during the emergence of fermentative life style in yeast. I will particularly discuss the importance of changes in post-transcriptional regulation during this process. Different from normal tissue cells that mostly conduct respiration, tumor cells also conduct fermentative growth (Warburg effect). I will also briefly discuss our discoveries regarding similar pathways during tumorigenesis and yeast evolution.
